FIRST.bet, the Tier-1 sportsbook technology provider, has officially entered Sweden as the first market in its next phase of European expansion.
Swedish operators can now access the FIRST.bet sportsbook engine while retaining full ownership of their brand, frontend code, and user experience design.
The move targets one of Europe’s most mature and strictly regulated betting environments, where product quality is a primary differentiator among competing operators.
Sweden’s betting culture is driven heavily by football and ice hockey, spanning domestic competitions like Allsvenskan and the SHL through to the Premier League and the NHL.
FIRST.bet operates through its SportOS platform, described as a frontend-less sportsbook operating system that separates the operator’s visible product from the underlying engine.
Under this model, FIRST.bet handles pricing, trading, risk management, bet acceptance, and settlement, while the operator retains complete control over design and player flow.
Operators can update pages, launch new designs, or rework the bet slip independently, without waiting on a supplier’s development roadmap to accommodate their changes.
Tom Light, founder and CEO of FIRST.bet, explained the reasoning behind targeting Sweden specifically as the launchpad for this expansion phase.
Light said: “Sweden is the right place to start this phase because it is a hard market to impress. Every operator there works under the same strict rules, and a bonus is only allowed the first time a player plays, so the product is what sets them apart.”
He added: “The strongest operators want to own their product and their frontend. You do not build a whole gym just to work out. Operators should not have to build their own trading operation just to own their sportsbook. They own what the player sees, and we run the engine behind it.”
FIRST.bet holds a licence from the Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen, in addition to its Malta Gaming Authority licence, and carries both GLI-33 and ISO certifications.
Founded by former SBTech leaders, the company operates across regulated markets in Latin America, Europe, and Africa, positioning SportOS as a scalable solution for ambitious operators globally.
