Kalshi Undercuts DraftKings And FanDuel On NFL Week 1 Pricing In Sharp Market Reversal

Prediction market platform Kalshi has offered better odds than both DraftKings and FanDuel during the opening week of the 2026 NFL season.

This represents a significant reversal from the same period a year ago, when Kalshi trailed both major sportsbooks on pricing.

Citizens JMP Securities analysts Jordan Bender and Isabelle Slavin tracked odds across 28 data points covering moneyline bets and totals on Friday 11 September.

Kalshi’s implied vig came in 3% lower than FanDuel’s and 4% lower than DraftKings’, marking a meaningful competitive shift in the market.

Kalshi’s implied pricing for Week 1 stood at 4.32%, while FanDuel posted 4.44% and DraftKings came in at 4.51%.

The gap is all the more striking given that Kalshi trailed both sportsbooks by 30 to 40 basis points during the same week of the previous NFL season.

Citizens JMP had tracked pricing through college basketball’s March Madness and the FIFA World Cup earlier in 2026, where Kalshi also led both rivals by 30 to 40 basis points.

Not every area of Kalshi’s book is as competitive, however, with parlay and combo pricing telling a noticeably different story.

Kalshi’s implied vig on combined favourite and over bets reached 23.8% in Week 1, compared to 22.0% at both DraftKings and FanDuel before transaction fees are applied.

Kalshi charged an average fee of $1.62 per 100 contracts across tracked markets, with takers generally paying while market makers often received reduced or waived fees.

The Citizens JMP findings carry weight beyond pure pricing mechanics, as the analysts identified three broader trends worth monitoring across the sports betting landscape.

First, cannibalisation of regulated sports betting by prediction markets does not appear to be worsening and may in fact be easing.

This directly contradicts a position taken by the American Gaming Association, which asserted in August that prediction markets are actively hurting regulated sportsbook revenue.

Second, customer wallets appear to be splitting between traditional sportsbooks and prediction markets, suggesting the overall pool of betting dollars is expanding rather than simply migrating.

Third, the analysts found that new customer acquisition costs and operational missteps, rather than competition from prediction markets, are the primary factors weighing on sportsbook handle.
