Maverick Gaming Shuts Down Two More Washington Casinos, Cutting 238 Jobs

Maverick Gaming is closing two of its Washington state properties in November, eliminating 238 jobs as the company continues restructuring under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The company’s affiliate, Maverick Washington LLC, filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices with Washington state officials on August 31, confirming the upcoming closures.

Documents show that two Tukwila casinos, Riverside Casino and Great American Casino, are scheduled to shut their doors on November 1.

Riverside Casino will account for the majority of the job losses, with 142 positions expected to be eliminated when the property closes.

Great American Casino will account for the remaining 96 redundancies, with some of the affected workers belonging to Teamsters Local 117.

The Tukwila closures come just three months after Maverick shut Silver Dollar Casino Mill Creek in Bothell, Washington, and Crazy Moose Casino Mountlake in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, both on July 31.

The Silver Dollar Casino Mill Creek closure resulted in 41 layoffs, while the Crazy Moose Casino Mountlake shutdown eliminated 82 positions from the regional workforce.

Maverick Gaming also closed the Silver Dollar SeaTac Casino in September 2025, laying off approximately 65 employees as part of its broader retrenchment across the state.

Company officials attributed the closures to significant competition from tribal casinos operating in the surrounding area, alongside rising labor costs putting pressure on margins.

Maverick Gaming originally filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2025, after an aggressive expansion strategy saddled the company with substantial financial obligations it could no longer sustain.

On August 31, the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas approved another extension of the period during which Maverick retains exclusive rights to file its Chapter 11 restructuring plan.

Despite the wave of closures, Maverick Gaming still operates more than 20 properties across three states following the latest shutdowns.

Fifteen of those properties remain in Washington, where all locations are listed as cardrooms, while four Nevada properties and three Colorado venues continue operating as full commercial casinos.

The ongoing restructuring signals a significant scaling back of what was once an ambitious multi-state expansion for Maverick Gaming, with more decisions likely as bankruptcy proceedings continue.
