Genius Sports Chief Executive Officer Mark Locke has publicly embraced the rise of prediction markets, describing the trend as broadly beneficial for the NYSE-listed sports data company.
Locke made his comments during an investor call that followed the release of Genius Sports’ second quarter 2026 financial results, which showed strong year-on-year growth across key metrics.
The company reported Q2 revenue of $195.5 million, representing a 64.7% year-on-year increase that significantly exceeded expectations and reinforced confidence in the business.
Genius Sports also posted a Q2 EBITDA figure of $52.6 million, up 54% compared to the same period in the prior year, demonstrating strong operational performance.
Following those results, the company upgraded its full-year revenue expectations from a range of $990 million to $1.010 billion up to a new range of $1.005 billion to $1.025 billion.
Full-year EBITDA guidance was similarly revised upward, moving from a range of $270 million to $280 million to a new range of $285 million to $295 million.
Despite those positive figures, Genius Sports did see its losses widen to $76 million, which the company largely attributed to non-recurring transaction-related expenses.
Locke addressed the growing prominence of prediction market platforms directly, framing their expansion as an opportunity rather than a threat to the company’s existing business model.
“The way we think about the market is that we’re taking revenue from anything to do with sports betting,” Locke said, underlining the company’s broad approach to monetising data across different platforms.
He continued: “Whether that’s from the traditional online sports betting operators or whether that’s the expansion in the TAM that we’re getting with the prediction markets, it’s all very net positive for us.”
The reference to TAM, or total addressable market, signals that Genius Sports views prediction market growth as an expansion of opportunity rather than a cannibalisation of its traditional revenue streams.
Prediction markets have grown rapidly as a distinct category within the sports wagering landscape, attracting significant attention from both regulators and established operators looking to understand their commercial implications.
For a data and technology provider like Genius Sports, the emergence of new platforms needing official data feeds and trading infrastructure presents meaningful additional revenue potential across a broadening ecosystem.
