Gaming1 Pushes Entertainment-First Strategy To Reduce Focus On Pure Gambling

Gaming1 is shifting its strategic focus toward broader entertainment experiences, aiming to increase player dwell time without driving up overall spending.

The company’s approach centres on transforming its platform into a leisure destination rather than a purely transactional gambling environment, drawing comparisons to a physical casino resort.

Speaking on the direction of the business, Choffray explained: “We need to move increasingly towards entertainment and away from being solely focused on gambling.”

He added that the platform must reflect this shift “through new, gaming-inspired products we are integrating, through free-to-play gamification features, and by increasing the time players spend on our platform without necessarily increasing their spending.”

Choffray framed the vision clearly, stating: “Think of it like a physical casino: the goal is to be a leisure destination, not just a place to wager.”

The ambition is to build a platform “where players come to be entertained, to connect, and to have fun, with gambling as one experience” rather than the sole focus.

Gaming1 identifies several pillars that separate it from competitors, including the verticals it offers, gamification mechanics, the social dimension of casino play, player-to-player interactions, and exclusive content.

Choffray also highlighted the group’s market-by-market approach, noting that competitors vary by region and that Gaming1 systematically adapts its product to match what local rivals do well while layering on unique features.

The company’s technical foundation plays a significant role in enabling this adaptability, with Gaming1’s platform having been built on a microservices architecture from the ground up, allowing rapid response to new regulatory requirements.

Operating exclusively in regulated markets is presented as a core strength, giving Gaming1 both credibility and the operational discipline to respond quickly to shifting compliance landscapes.

However, the rise of the illegal gambling sector remains a persistent challenge, complicating efforts to remain competitive amid increasingly strict regulatory clampdowns across multiple jurisdictions.

Player protection is described as central to Gaming1’s identity, with Choffray stating: “I believe we are one of the very few online casinos that are fully transparent with players about their own behaviour, showing them their losses over the last days, weeks and months, their playing time, their wagering patterns, and so on.”

This transparency allows the platform to alert players when their activity starts to exceed their usual averages and guide them toward setting appropriate personal limits.

The overall strategy reflects a broader industry conversation about how online gambling operators can remain commercially viable while genuinely serving player wellbeing and long-term engagement.
