KSA Revokes Fraudulently Obtained Licence After Scammer Impersonates Quick Boys Chairman

The Netherlands Gambling Authority, known as the KSA, has revoked a lottery licence that was fraudulently obtained using the identity of Dutch football club Quick Boys.

An unknown party posed as the chairman of Quick Boys, a Katwijk-based football club, to deceive the KSA’s application process and secure a legitimate licence.

Following the licence approval, several websites were launched under the guise of the club to sell lottery tickets to unsuspecting consumers.

    Sites flagged by the KSA included loterij.quickboys.nl, loterijenqb.com, besteloterijqb.com, nieuweqb.com, bestenl.com, topnetherlands.com, newloterij.com, and topsloterij.com.

The regulator confirmed that Quick Boys had absolutely no connection to any of these websites or the lottery operations conducted through them.

Consumers have been warned not to enter personal information on these sites, including names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, or bank details.

The KSA stated it does not know how the fraudster is using submitted data, but warned it could be exploited for phishing attacks or identity fraud.

“Consumers must be able to rely on a licence issued by the KSA,” said Ella Seijsener, director of licensing at the regulator, addressing the seriousness of the breach.

“We take the fact that a fraudster managed to deceive our application process very seriously. We have immediately tightened our checks on the identities of applicants and the domain names listed in the Kansspelwijzer,” Seijsener added.

The KSA has filed a report with the police regarding the matter and confirmed it would not provide further details while the investigation remains ongoing.

The authority described the Quick Boys case as part of a broader trend, noting that fraudsters are increasingly misusing the names and licences of clubs that organise legal lotteries.

The KSA said the pattern represents a new risk for itself as a supervisor, though it confirmed a similar attempt was prevented in another case through additional controls.

The regulator noted that such fraud harms both the associations whose reputations are misused and consumers who believe they are participating in a legitimate lottery.

Anyone who purchased tickets through the fraudulent sites is advised to contact their bank to reverse payments, report the incident to police, and notify both the Fraud Help Desk and the KSA directly.
