Allwyn has officially launched Powerball in the United Kingdom, marking the first time the iconic American lottery format has ever been offered outside the United States.
The launch forms a central part of Allwyn UK’s broader strategy to revamp and significantly expand the National Lottery offering for British players.
The operator has set an ambitious target of doubling weekly returns to good causes by 2034, with the Powerball launch representing a major step toward that goal.
The first retail ticket was sold at the Sewell on the Go shop in Pocklington, Yorkshire, just after 5am on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
Shortly after the retail launch, the first online ticket was purchased through the National Lottery app by a player based in Brighton at 5:54am the same morning.
The inaugural UK Powerball draw is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 23 July, giving players just days to enter the new game.
Players wishing to participate in that first draw must purchase their tickets before the cut-off time of 11:55pm on Wednesday, 22 July.
A £4 Powerball ticket will enter players into a draw for an estimated jackpot of £300 million, making it one of the largest lottery prizes available in the UK.
In the United States, Powerball operates effectively as a national lottery, with its multi-state prize draw distinguishing it from individual state-run lottery games.
Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, underlined the potential impact of the game on players’ lives, saying: “I’ve seen first-hand how a big win can transform lives.”
The UK launch of Powerball represents a landmark moment for the National Lottery and signals Allwyn’s intent to fundamentally reshape the British lottery landscape in the years ahead.
