Spain entered the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals as the least-backed team on GR8_TECH’s sportsbook, accounting for just 11.61% of semifinal betting volume.
England attracted 17.24% of that volume, Argentina drew 33.79%, and France led all semifinal betting with 37.36% of the action.
Despite being the public’s least-favoured side among the final four, Spain went on to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup with flying colors.
Weeks before the tournament concluded, GR8_TECH’s TEAM OF CHAMPIONS activation had invited industry professionals to pick the eventual champion from all 48 competing nations.
Those professionals collectively identified the exact four teams that would reach the semifinals: Argentina, England, France, and Spain, before a single match had been played.
Spain’s 2026 triumph mirrored the 2010 World Cup victory in striking fashion, with 65% possession, near-flawless pass accuracy, and a 1-0 win in extra time.
Their opponent was held without a shot for 90 minutes, echoing the same suffocating style of control that defined Spain’s 2010 generation and the jersey they wore in the TEAM OF CHAMPIONS collection.
The TEAM OF CHAMPIONS collection featured 11 unique hand-crafted garments, each representing a different route to championship success, including strategies labelled Structure, Resilience, Scalability, Efficiency, and Flexibility.
Over 39 days of tournament football, the activation generated 1 million impressions and reached 400,000 people worldwide, with over 500 requests prompting an additional garment drop.
Sergey Ghazaryan, CRO at GR8_TECH, reflected on what the gap between public betting sentiment and expert prediction reveals about the sportsbook industry.
“Betting volume told us Spain were the outsiders even in the final four. The professionals who voted in TEAM OF CHAMPIONS had picked them out of forty-eight,” said Ghazaryan.
“That distance between crowd sentiment and informed judgment is what a trading desk navigates every single day — and what a great sportsbook platform has to help operators see in real time,” he added.
The campaign ultimately demonstrated how informed judgment, separated from public sentiment, can identify outcomes the market consistently undervalues until it is too late.
