Tonybet Secures Alberta iGaming Licence As Canada’s Second Regulated Province Opens For Business

Tonybet has been granted an iGaming licence by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission, clearing the operator to compete in Alberta’s newly regulated online market.

The licence adds Alberta to Tonybet’s existing Canadian presence, with the company already holding active licences in Ontario and Kahnawake.

Alberta becomes Canada’s second province to introduce a competitive, multi-operator iGaming framework, following Ontario’s landmark launch back in 2022.

The province presents a substantial commercial opportunity, with an estimated population of nearly 5 million people and a well-established sports culture driving strong demand.

Alberta’s regulatory model is designed to redirect existing online gaming activity into a licensed, player-protected environment, mirroring the approach taken in Ontario.

Tonybet intends to bring its localised strategy to Alberta from day one, combining regionally relevant sports betting markets, responsible gaming tools, and dedicated customer support.

The operator has already begun preparations for launch, including platform localisation, integration with the province’s centralised self-exclusion system, and onboarding with the Alberta iGaming Corporation.

Tonybet CEO Dmitry Arabuli highlighted the company’s Ontario performance as proof of its model, noting that registrations and gross gaming revenue in the province both grew by 52% in 2025.

“Alberta is taking the right approach – building a regulated market that puts player protection and operational standards at the centre from the start,” said Arabuli, adding that securing the licence means Tonybet can bring the same commitment to Alberta.

Arabuli also stated that “we’ve spent years proving in Ontario that you can grow a business and maintain the highest compliance standards at the same time,” framing responsible gaming as central rather than contrary to growth.

Founded in 2009 and headquartered in Riga, Tonybet operates across multiple jurisdictions, currently holding seven licences covering Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Latvia, Estonia, and Canada.

The Alberta licence further cements Tonybet’s position as one of the most broadly licensed iGaming operators active in the Canadian market today.
