All The Goals Scored By Gareth Bale Last Year Before A Career Of Legends Came To An End

All the goals scored by Gareth Bale in the last year of his professional career paint the picture of a player who refused to let injuries, age or diminishing appearances define his final chapter, contributing at the highest level right up until his retirement announcement.

Bale’s final active year spanned two very different footballing environments: the MLS with Los Angeles FC and international duty with Wales at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, making it one of the most geographically and emotionally varied concluding seasons any elite European footballer has experienced.

All The Goals Scored By Gareth Bale Last Year: MLS Campaign With LAFC

Bale scored three goals in 13 MLS appearances for Los Angeles FC during the 2022 season, contributing both at home and on the road across a campaign that saw the club compete strongly for honours in the Western Conference.

His goals-per-90-minutes figure of 0.8 during the MLS run was remarkable given his limited playing time and the physical challenges that had defined the latter stages of his career at Real Madrid, placing him among the league’s most efficient attacking contributors relative to minutes on the pitch.

Despite not registering a single assist across the MLS season, his movement, aerial threat and directness remained assets that gave opponents problems whenever he was fit and available to start.

World Cup 2022: The Most Emotional Of All The Goals Scored By Gareth Bale Last Year

Earlier in 2022, Bale had produced arguably his most important contribution of the entire year during the World Cup qualifying playoff campaign, scoring twice against Austria in a 2-1 semi-final victory that sent Wales to their first World Cup since 1958.

The strikes against Austria were vintage Bale in their composure and timing, delivered when the weight of an entire nation’s footballing aspirations rested squarely on his shoulders.

At the tournament in Qatar, Wales faced the United States in their opening group game and fell behind, at which point Bale stepped forward to convert a penalty and equalise, scoring the first Welsh World Cup goal in 64 years.

Wales were eliminated in the group stage without adding to that solitary World Cup goal, but Bale’s penalty against the United States became one of the tournament’s defining moments of national pride and sporting history.

His final professional appearance came in Wales’s last group game, a 3-0 defeat to England, after which he confirmed his retirement from football entirely.
