Flutter Entertainment plc has announced that Chief Legal Officer Don Liu notified the Board of his intention to resign, with his departure taking effect on September 30, 2026.
The global gambling and entertainment group moved quickly to manage the transition, naming Group Company Secretary Edward Traynor as interim Chief Legal Officer effective October 1, 2026.
The appointment signals a managed approach to legal leadership succession at one of the world’s largest online betting and gaming companies.
Traynor brings considerable legal and governance experience to the interim role, having served as Group Company Secretary at Flutter for a significant period prior to this appointment.
In his current capacity, Traynor is responsible for advising the Board on governance matters and managing Flutter’s relationship with the company’s registrar.
He is a qualified solicitor and holds a BL in Civil Law (International), credentials that underpin his suitability for stepping into the senior legal leadership position.
Before joining Flutter, Traynor served as General Counsel and Company Secretary for Paddy Power ahead of its landmark merger with Betfair in 2015, giving him direct experience with high-profile corporate transactions in the gambling sector.
Prior to his time at Paddy Power, he held the positions of General Counsel and Company Secretary, and latterly Head of Legal and Regulatory Affairs, for Vodafone Ireland.
The departure of Don Liu comes at a time when Flutter operates across multiple regulated markets, making robust legal leadership a critical component of the company’s ongoing compliance and strategic operations.
Flutter Entertainment offers sports betting, online casino, poker, and related gaming services globally, positioning itself as a major player in digital wagering and interactive entertainment across some of the world’s most competitive regulated markets.
The company has not yet indicated a timeline for appointing a permanent Chief Legal Officer to replace Liu on a long-term basis.
Traynor’s deep familiarity with Flutter’s governance structures and his extensive background in both telecommunications and gambling law make him a natural fit to oversee the legal function during this transitional period.
