Racecourse Media Group has announced the appointment of Nigel Railton as its new Chair, marking a significant leadership development for the organisation.
Railton brings extensive board-level experience across media, consumer-facing industries, and highly regulated sectors to his new position at RMG.
He currently serves as Chair of Post Office Ltd, a role he has held since May 2024, where he is leading a major transformation programme and rebuilding stakeholder relationships.
Railton is also a trustee of The Social Mobility Foundation, reflecting his broader commitment to purpose-driven leadership beyond the commercial sphere.
His most prominent previous role was Chief Executive Officer of Camelot UK, the operator of The National Lottery, where he led a significant business turnaround across several years.
During his time at Camelot UK, Railton oversaw sustained sales growth, record returns to good causes, and the successful expansion of the business’s digital operations.
Prior to that, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Camelot Global, where he built the international business and secured major lottery contracts in Ireland, Europe, and the United States.
Earlier in his career, the qualified accountant held senior positions covering finance, operations, and strategy at Railtrack, Black and Decker, and Daewoo Cars.
RMG Non-Executive Director James Sanderson praised the appointment, saying: “Nigel brings an outstanding blend of commercial leadership, governance experience and strategic vision, gained through a career leading some of the UK’s most recognisable and highly regulated organisations.”
Sanderson added that Railton’s “track record of delivering growth, embracing innovation and building strong relationships with stakeholders makes him an ideal fit for RMG and our shareholder racecourses.”
Railton expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge, stating: “RMG is a highly respected organisation with a proven track record of delivering value for its shareholder racecourses and helping to promote the sport to audiences around the world.”
He acknowledged the shifting landscape facing the business, noting that “the media landscape continues to evolve rapidly, creating both opportunities and challenges” ahead.
Railton confirmed he looks forward to working with “the Board, Nick Mills and the wider team to build on the company’s success, strengthen its partnerships and support the long-term growth and sustainability of racing.”
He will formally take up the Chair role on October 1, succeeding Conor Grant, the Fanatics Gaming and former Flutter Entertainment executive who has chaired RMG since April 2023.
Grant will remain in place for a one-month handover period, staying on until November 1 to ensure a smooth transition for the organisation.
