Sissel Weitzhändler has joined the Advisory Board of 1xCare, bringing with her a wealth of experience from across the gambling compliance and regulatory landscape.
She joins alongside fellow board members Simon Westbury, Chris Bird and Quirino Mancini, forming a team aimed at driving meaningful change across the global gambling ecosystem.
Weitzhändler previously served as Allwyn’s Director of Compliance and Regulatory Affairs, a role that placed her at the centre of some of the industry’s most significant regulatory conversations.
Her move to 1xCare represents a natural progression, with the organisation focused on connecting research, education, technology and well-being support across gambling markets worldwide.
Weitzhändler is set to appear at the European Association for the Study of Gambling congress, where player protection and harm prevention are expected to be central themes of discussion.
Speaking about her decision to join, she made clear that she approached the role with full awareness of what genuine advisory responsibility demands from its members.
“Having worked in the industry for years, I was delighted when I was approached to join the Advisory Board, to help contribute to various safer gambling initiatives which I believe is worthwhile and timely,” she said.
She was equally candid about the nature of advisory work itself, stressing that real value comes from scrutiny rather than simply providing a stamp of approval for existing programmes.
“I joined with my eyes open. An Advisory Board is not there simply to endorse a programme, value lies in independent challenge, oversight and accountability. Governance proves itself when difficult decisions arise,” she added.
The direction Weitzhändler envisions for 1xCare is deliberately proactive, with a focus on translating policy priorities into practical initiatives capable of producing transparent and measurable results.
This approach includes supporting robust governance and accountability structures, while assessing projects carefully against their expected impact on players and wider communities.
Contributing to regular reporting on the activities and outcomes of programmes 1xCare supports is also a core part of the role Weitzhändler has taken on.
The Advisory Board is currently working through the finer details of how best to implement its broader strategy across the organisation’s areas of focus.
The intention is to establish a clear, robust and transparent framework that supports high-quality, independent research into player protection, responsible gambling and harm prevention.
The future grant model being developed is expected to be guided by core principles including independence, relevance, methodological quality, transparency and measurable public benefit.
