Amelco’s Max Bailey Outlines Strategy For Sustaining Momentum After FIFA World Cup

Amelco has reflected on a highly successful FIFA World Cup campaign, with Trading Team Lead Max Bailey sharing key insights on maintaining post-tournament momentum.

The sportsbook technology firm confirmed the tournament delivered across all major internal benchmarks, including site engagement, profitability, and new customer acquisition targets.

Bailey noted that one of the company’s primary expectations was a significant uplift in turnover, and that goal was firmly achieved throughout the competition.

Constant updates to the platform and a broad range of available markets kept customers engaged for the duration of the tournament, driving strong trading results week after week.

Gross gaming revenue reached double digits in some weeks during the tournament, a testament to both the product offering and the sustained interest from bettors globally.

Results on the pitch had a notable impact on performance, as the three host nations alongside Scotland and England all exited the competition earlier than anticipated.

Despite this World Cup averaging the fewest cards per game in decades, players continued to place a high volume of bets on bookings markets throughout the event.

Bailey observed that referees adopted a more lenient approach than bettors are accustomed to in competitions such as the Premier League, yet booking bets remained persistently popular.

The lenient officiating did not deter players from wagering on bookings, and Amelco confirmed the company finished in the green across those markets as a result.

“If there’s one thing we’ve taken from the tournament, it’s that players know what they like,” Bailey said, highlighting the consistency of bettor behaviour even in unique circumstances.

He added: “Even in more unique situations, they still come back to their favourite markets. That’s always been our approach. Having the evidence to back it up now gives us even more confidence we’re on the right track.”

Looking ahead, Amelco made clear that its focus remains firmly on delivering what players want and ensuring all expected markets remain available to customers going forward.

The World Cup has given Amelco a wealth of data and confidence to build a stronger, more targeted product strategy heading into the next major sporting calendar cycle.
