Bet365’s ‘Sub On Play On’ Feature Pays Out £30m In First 11 Days Of 2026 World Cup

Bet365 has paid out an extraordinary £30m through its popular ‘Sub On Play On’ promotion during the opening 11 days of the 2026 World Cup.

The feature allows customers to keep their player bets active even when their chosen player is substituted off during a match.

If a player is taken off before delivering the desired outcome, the bet transfers automatically to whoever replaces them on the pitch.

The promotion has proved a massive hit with bettors, offering guaranteed action for the full duration of any match regardless of substitutions made by managers.

Bet365 confirmed it had paid out roughly $40 million to customers across the first 10 days and 35 matches of the tournament.

The 2026 World Cup has seen an average of 9.4 substitutes per game, making the promotion particularly impactful and costly for the bookmaker.

Bet365’s Steve Freeth commented on the promotion’s impact: “10 days in and we’re already up to £30m – you can see why it’s a customer favourite.”

Freeth highlighted some of the most expensive moments for the bookmaker: “Bradley Barcola replacing Ousmane Dembele against Senegal has proved to be costliest so far, while Crysencio Summerville’s impact after coming on for Donyell Malen – scoring and assisting versus Sweden – was another big one.”

Freeth also pointed to notable English players driving payouts: “Anthony Gordon backers would’ve been delighted to see Marcus Rashford shine in the England opener and Deniz Undav is costing us a fair few quid despite only playing 56 minutes at the tournament so far.”

The Harry Kane example perfectly illustrates how the feature functions for customers placing anytime goalscorer bets at the tournament.

Should Kane be substituted without scoring, his replacement inherits the bet, meaning bettors are never left stranded by an early tactical change from a manager.

With the group stage still ongoing and knockout rounds yet to come, the £30m figure is likely to climb considerably higher before the tournament concludes.
