A staggering $873 million impairment tied to Flutter Entertainment’s Brazilian operations drove the group to a $1.15 billion net loss in its third quarter.
Flutter confirmed the results on November 4, 2026, marking one of the most costly single-quarter charges in the company’s recent history.
The Brazilian business was formally shut down on September 26, 2026, ending the operator’s participation in that regulated market.
Because Flutter holds a 56% stake in Flutter Brazil, $537 million of the total post-tax impairment charge fell directly to the group.
Despite the headline loss, underlying trading was not entirely bleak, with total group revenue still climbing 2% to $3.87 billion for the quarter.
The damage to annual targets was nonetheless significant, with Flutter trimming its full-year revenue guidance midpoint by $300 million, bringing it to $17.61 billion.
Adjusted EBITDA expectations were also revised downward, with the guidance midpoint reduced by $160 million to $2.495 billion.
Unfavourable sports results compounded the Brazil problem, weighing on performance across both the US and International segments during the period.
The US division remained the clearest bright spot, posting 6% revenue growth to reach $1.46 billion, though sportsbook revenue specifically slipped 2% to $963 million.
That sportsbook dip came despite handle surging 8% to $8.57 billion, pointing to adverse margins rather than any softening of betting activity.
International iGaming revenue edged 1% higher to $1.38 billion, a figure Flutter noted was shaped by its withdrawal from India in August of last year.
One emerging revenue stream showed genuine momentum, with prediction markets and related activity generating an additional $66 million, a figure 20% above the prior-year comparison.
Flutter confirmed that investment in prediction markets is expected to continue into 2027 at levels matching or exceeding those seen in the current year.
The group described its broader position as one of strength despite the turbulence, signalling confidence that the structural foundations remain intact heading into the final quarter.
