Ladbrokes Ireland has returned to profitability in 2025, converting a €1.3 million loss from the previous year into a modest profit of €300,000.
The turnaround comes after the company, which operates Entain retail shops across Ireland, undertook a concentrated cost-cutting effort reflected in its Companies Registration Office filing.
Staff costs were reduced significantly year-on-year, falling from €15.4 million to €14.2 million as the company trimmed its workforce.
Monthly headcount dropped from 542 to 526 employees, indicating a deliberate effort to reduce the wage bill and bring operational costs under control.
Overall operating expenses fell to €21.5 million for 2025, compared to €25.2 million the prior year, representing a notable reduction across the business.
However, the cost reductions did not occur in isolation, as revenue also declined alongside expenses, dropping nearly 10% year-on-year from €36.8 million to €33.2 million.
The revenue dip signals that the Irish operation continues to face commercial pressure despite the headline shift from loss to profit in its financial results.
Ladbrokes Ireland is classified as a going concern but relies on financial support from its parent company, Entain Group, to maintain that status.
Entain has confirmed it will not demand immediate repayment of the €6.4 million owed to group entities, providing critical breathing room for the Irish subsidiary.
The parent group has also stated that it will “continue to make available such funds as are needed by the company, until at least 12 months from the date of approval of the financial statements and for the foreseeable future.”
Ladbrokes Ireland had entered a net liability position in 2023 following the impairment of its fixed assets, which has continued to shape the financial picture in subsequent years.
Independent auditors from KPMG reviewed the Ladbrokes Ireland accounts and verified that they comply fully with Irish law and the FRS 101 Reduced Disclosure Framework.
The KPMG sign-off provides a degree of regulatory assurance, though the accounts paint a picture of a business still navigating a difficult operating environment.
While the return to profit is a positive development, the underlying pressures on revenue and the continued reliance on Entain Group support suggest the road ahead remains challenging.
