Sky Bet Dominates August Fantasy Rush As Premier League 2026/27 Season Kicks Off

The Premier League 2026/27 season officially began on 21 August, when Arsenal hosted promoted side Coventry City, marking the most significant date in the UK fantasy sports calendar.

Blask’s Fantasy Sports 2026 report tracked fantasy sports search demand across 100 countries and found that 76 of them experience their annual peak demand in August every single year.

The quietest month for fantasy demand is June, which holds under 2% of the year’s total, while August runs close to ten times higher by comparison.

The UK stands as the single largest fantasy market by volume, and the Blask report identifies one clear driver behind that dominance: the Premier League season starts in August.

Fantasy demand overall grew 3% year-on-year in the 12 months to June 2026, making it four times faster-growing than total iGaming demand across every other category tracked in the report.

Of the 100 countries covered in the research, 49 saw both fantasy demand and its share of total demand rise together over the same period, showing the growth extended well beyond a handful of outlier markets.

The UK’s total iGaming demand across every vertical Blask tracks carries an average Competitive Earning Baseline of $11.7 billion over the 12 months to June 2026, with a range of $8.4 billion to $21.5 billion.

Blask tracked monthly brand demand for the UK’s seven largest bookmakers, bet365, William Hill, Sky Bet, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, Coral, and Betfair, from January 2023 through July 2026.

Sky Bet gained the most from the Premier League kickoff effect every single year, with its month-over-month jump averaging just under 25% across the 2023, 2024, and 2025 kickoffs.

Bet365 was the closest competitor to Sky Bet during kickoff periods, posting an average July-to-August jump of just under 19% across the same three seasons.

William Hill averaged close to 13% Brand Accumulated Power over the period but posted an average July-to-August jump of under 6%, falling even further during the 2024 season.

The 2024 data showed a notable distortion, as UEFA EURO 2024 ran from 14 June to 14 July, inflating July baseline figures and making the August kickoff jump appear muted or negative across most brands.

Paddy Power experienced the sharpest reversal in that 2024 period, posting a July-to-August change of -12.0%, with five of the seven brands tracked recording a decline that year.

The 2026 calendar carries a comparable distortion, as the FIFA World Cup ran from 11 June to 19 July, affecting how European leagues restarted their seasons at varying strengths.

Among Europe’s top leagues, the Premier League is the one opening at full strength in 2026, with all 20 clubs and their biggest names available from the very first match day.

Heading into the 21 August kickoff, bet365 led the pre-season standings ahead of a tight cluster featuring Paddy Power, William Hill, Ladbrokes, and Sky Bet, with Coral just behind and Betfair well off the pace.

The Blask report’s own conclusion captures the dynamic cleanly: William Hill wins the year, while Sky Bet wins the week, a pattern that has held consistently across three consecutive Premier League kickoff windows.
