Catena Media Reports H1 Recovery Disrupted By SEO Headwinds Despite Strong Revenue Growth

Catena Media’s recovery trajectory in the first half of 2026 has been complicated by persistent SEO headwinds, according to the company’s latest financial update.

The affiliate giant had been building momentum through 2026, reporting a strong Q1 performance with revenue climbing 26% year-on-year to €12.3 million.

That impressive quarterly figure was accompanied by an adjusted EBITDA margin exceeding 20%, signalling that the company’s restructuring efforts were beginning to bear fruit.

CEO Manuel Stan had set an optimistic tone at the close of the Q1 earnings call, telling investors he was “looking forward to hosting you for our Q2 report on August 11, 2026.”

The Q2 results, released on that date as scheduled, arrived against a backdrop of ongoing challenges in organic search performance across key markets.

SEO volatility has become a recurring concern across the affiliate sector, with algorithm updates from major search engines continuing to disrupt traffic patterns for established operators.

For Catena Media, which relies heavily on organic search traffic to drive player acquisition for its casino and sports betting partners, these headwinds carry significant commercial weight.

The company had entered 2026 with targets in place for double-digit organic revenue growth and double-digit adjusted EBITDA growth, with casino positioned as the primary engine of that expansion.

One notable catalyst flagged for the second half of the year is the opening of Alberta as a regulated market, which became accessible on 13 July and represents a meaningful new revenue opportunity for the business.

The Canadian province has been a long-anticipated addition to the regulated landscape, and Catena Media had specifically identified it as a key growth driver when outlining its H2 2026 outlook.

Whether SEO challenges will significantly offset those gains remains the central question facing the company as it moves through the back half of the financial year.

Catena Media has been undergoing a broader strategic transformation in recent years, shedding non-core assets and focusing its resources on markets where it holds a competitive advantage.

The combination of regulatory tailwinds in North America and the ongoing push to stabilise organic traffic performance will likely define the company’s fortunes through the remainder of 2026.
