Heath Chesters Research Finds Instant Withdrawals Now Outrank Bonuses As The Top Driver Of Player Trust

New research from Online-Casinos.com reveals that fast, transparent withdrawals have become one of the strongest factors shaping player trust in regulated online gambling markets.

The findings, compiled by Heath Chesters from Online-Casinos.com, examine how shifting payment technology and evolving consumer behaviour are changing what players prioritise when choosing an operator.

According to the report, withdrawal speed and payment transparency are increasingly overtaking traditional acquisition incentives like welcome bonuses as the primary measure of operator quality.

“Players have become much more sophisticated,” said Chesters. “A generous bonus might attract attention, but the withdrawal process is where a casino earns or loses a player’s trust.”

The research identifies several key factors that most influence player confidence, including fast withdrawal processing, transparent payment timelines, and the absence of unexpected fees.

Clear communication throughout the payout process and reliable customer support during verification were also highlighted as critical components of a positive payment experience.

Operators that consistently deliver smooth and predictable payment journeys are, according to the report, significantly more likely to retain players over the long term.

The research also draws attention to the rapid growth of open banking across European gambling markets, noting its role in reducing transaction times while strengthening security and fraud prevention.

Markets including the UK, the Netherlands and Scandinavia are already seeing widespread adoption, with Spain and Italy also increasingly embracing open banking payment solutions.

“Players are becoming comfortable authorising payments directly through their own banking apps,” Chesters explained. “That creates a faster, simpler and more trusted payment experience for both players and operators.”

Despite technological progress, the report identifies identity verification during withdrawals as one of the industry’s most persistent pain points for players seeking quick payouts.

Many operators still request KYC documentation only after a player submits their first withdrawal request, creating unnecessary delays that erode confidence at a critical moment in the customer journey.

The report calls on operators to introduce earlier verification processes and greater automation to reduce friction while continuing to meet regulatory compliance requirements.

“The best operators are moving verification earlier in the customer journey,” Chesters said. “That allows withdrawals to be processed much more efficiently while improving the overall player experience.”

The research concludes that payment quality is rapidly becoming a major competitive differentiator as pressure intensifies across regulated online gambling markets worldwide.

Rather than competing on the volume of payment methods offered, leading operators are focusing on delivering fast, reliable and locally tailored payment experiences that meet rising consumer expectations.

“The best payment experience isn’t about offering the most options,” Chesters concluded. “It’s about delivering the fastest, simplest and most transparent experience every time.”
