Black Cube Uses Evolution’s UKGC Settlement And Galaxy Gaming Collapse To Strengthen Case Against Live Casino Giant

Black Cube, the Israeli private intelligence firm behind a controversial 2021 dossier on Evolution, has filed new arguments claiming recent events support its legal position.

The filing, dated 3 August, argues that Evolution’s settlement with the UK Gambling Commission and the failed Galaxy Gaming acquisition both bolster Black Cube’s standing in the ongoing defamation case.

Playtech was revealed as the entity that commissioned the original 2021 report, setting the stage for one of the most dramatic legal battles in online gambling history.

The defamation case has been largely consumed by procedural disputes throughout 2026, with Black Cube repeatedly attempting to force disclosure of Evolution’s communications with regulators worldwide.

Black Cube specifically cited the Galaxy Gaming deal collapse and the UKGC licence review as fresh reasons the court should revisit its previously denied discovery request regarding those regulatory interactions.

The filing states: “Black Cube writes today because in the last two weeks, extraordinary events have confirmed Black Cube’s suspicion that Evolution has not been forthright with the court on matters that are essential to the resolution of the pending UPEPA motions.”

Evolution declined to comment but indicated it would file a formal response to Black Cube’s latest submission in due course.

Regarding the Galaxy Gaming collapse, Black Cube noted the deal ran out of time amid outstanding regulatory approvals, including from the Nevada Gaming Control Board, which had published new guidance barring licensees from operating in prohibited jurisdictions.

Evolution CEO Martin Carlesund later described the abandoned acquisition as having “no material impact” on operations, with the company indicating the time spent on finalising a relatively small deal had become disproportionate.

The UKGC investigation concluded last month with a £4.75m settlement, relating to Evolution games appearing on six sites operated by two unlicensed operators targeting UK players.

Evolution noted in its own press release that the Commission found no wider pattern of its games appearing on unlicensed sites across the UK market more broadly.

However, Black Cube highlighted that the UKGC had deemed policy failures at Evolution responsible for the breaches and had considered licence suspension serious enough to place on the table.

The filing further stated: “These remarkable developments confirm the misleading nature of Evolution’s statements to the court concerning its interactions with regulators around the world. They also plainly show why Black Cube’s November 2021 report was anything but a ‘sham.'”

Evolution’s position, as understood by industry observers, is that neither the Galaxy Gaming termination nor the UKGC settlement bears any relation to the matters originally raised in the Black Cube report.
